Barcart Pro: Onboarding Guide
Thanks for your interest in Barcart Pro! Our Pro plan is co-powered by Shopify, whether we are providing Buy Buttons to install on your current, non-Shopify website or integrating directly into your existing Shopify website.
We’re excited to bring you the combined power of Shopify’s capabilities & app ecosystem and Barcart’s compliant retail fulfillment platform.
See below for what to expect during your onboarding.
Note: for brands that will also be fulfilling non-alcohol items alongside alcohol, additional steps are required that are not outlined below. See here for more information.
Integration Options: see here
Shopify-Powered Buy Buttons for Non-Shopify Websites
- User Account Setup: To start, we’ll set your team up with user accounts in the Barcart platform. You’ll use these accounts to manage product pricing and distribution information, as well as monitor orders.
- Product Upload & Approval: You’ll then add products to the Barcart platform so that our team can review your distribution and pricing information with our retailers. The product submission page will guide you through all of the necessary information. Product availability and pricing will need to be confirmed by retailers in your distributed markets before proceeding.
- Store Creation & Barcart App Installation: The Barcart team will then set up a Shopify store that will be used to power your Buy Buttons. This Shopify store will not replace your primary website, but it will be used to power Buy Buttons, integrate with marketing apps, and access Shopify Analytics. We’ll install the Barcart app, which covers everything related to order & payment routing to our network of retailers. We’ll then sync the products you uploaded between Barcart and Shopify.
- DNS Settings: Once the setup is nearly complete, we’ll ask you to make some updates to your primary websites DNS settings. This will enable your checkout to exist at a Barcart-powered subdomain rather than a generic URL. Customers will still access Buy Buttons and their cart at your domain, but once they proceed to checkout, they’ll checkout at barcart.yourdomain.com.
- Optional: App Setup & Brand Settings: At this stage, we’ll provide access to the Shopify backend. You’ll be able to set up free Shopify apps like Google, Facebook, and Klaviyo (paid apps require additional discussion), as well as add some branding elements to the checkout page and emails.
- Buy Button Setup & Subscription Billing: When ready to proceed, you'll customize your Buy Buttons from within Barcart. For each button, you'll generate code and implement it on your website wherever applicable. Before receiving the code, you'll reach an upgrade screen where you can select your plan and add your payment information.
- Final Testing: If you’d like to test out the Barcart-Shopify integration before going live with a product, you’re able to place an order via your Shopify website or buy buttons as soon as you’ve been given the green light by Barcart’s team. Reference our Shopify launch guide for more information.

- Barcart App Installation & Store Settings Updates: The Barcart team will request access to your Shopify store so that we can install the Barcart app. The Barcart app will take over the following areas of your store to ensure a compliant connection to our retailer fulfillment network:
- Orders,
- Payment processing,
- Account billing,
- Shipping zones and rates,
- Inventory locations,
- Customer support email, and
- Website terms.
- Product Syncing: If you have existing products that are already set up in your Shopify store, we’ll connect them to the products you added to Barcart via the SKUs. (Priority will always be given to Barcart-generated SKUs.) If you don’t yet have any products set up in your Shopify store, we’ll sync the products you uploaded in Barcart to Shopify.
- Stripe Gateway Setup: To ensure that payments flow properly from consumers to the Barcart retailer network, you’ll need to set up Stripe as a payment gateway in your Shopify store. This requires an update to your Shopify’s Payments settings that can only be done by the account owner. We’ll provide instructions on how to do this.
- Brand Settings & Store Design: At any stage, you’ll be able to design your website and set up Shopify apps on your own, as well as customize branding and communication across checkout and emails. Barcart is solely a backend integration and does not handle any user-facing elements of your store - such as page content, cart design, or checkout design - except for product pricing and terms & conditions.
- Final Testing: If you’d like to test out the Barcart-Shopify integration before going live with a product, you’re able to place an order via your Shopify website or buy buttons as soon as you’ve been given the green light by Barcart’s team. Reference our Shopify launch guide for more information.
- Subscription Billing: Ahead of your launch, you'll receive an invoice to initiate your Barcart subscription. You'll be able to add a credit card or bank account for future payments, which will move towards automatic billing after the first month.
